Skies are usually the lightest in color, horizontal planes are usually medium in color, and slanted and vertical objects are usually the darkest. 2. Observe, then observe, then observe again. Colors change with the time of day and the quality of light. Artist like to paint in early morning or early evening. Monet would wake in the morning and look outside. If he didn't like the light - he would go back to bed! 3. Study reflective light - but if painting outdoors, make sure your red jacket isn't casting its color on your canvas. 4.
